The Biggest Challenge With Online Physio Consults, And How We Solve It
These are exciting times - Lift Physio now offers online consultations!
Now, I know what you're thinking…
“Don’t Physio’s need to get their hands on you to get you better?!”
Well, as a matter of fact, the “hands-on” stuff is only a small part of what we do.
Physio’s are like detectives - We first like to ask you a series of questions about your injury or condition to get a really thorough understanding of what might be going on (This carries over really well to the online space).
Then we guide you through a series of movements and tests to collect more information about your body, which allows us to come up with an impression or a diagnosis of your condition.
From there, through consultation with you over video, we are able to develop a management plan which will guide your recovery.
We can show you treatment techniques that you can carry out on yourself to replicate what we do in the clinic, and we can put a progressive exercise program together to ensure that you move forward with your recovery.
Online consultations in the health space are actually not a new thing - they've been used successfully for several years across a wide range of specialties, including the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions - and this is backed up by research to show that physiotherapy can be safe and effective when delivered online (we’ll link some interesting research papers below).
Online consultations are suitable for a number of different types of injuries, including:
Back pain
Neck pain due to working from home
Hip and knee osteoarthritis
Shoulder injuries such as rotator cuff pathologies
Overtraining injuries and tendinopathies
Pre or postoperative - especially if surgery is cancelled or delayed
All you need is a computer with a video camera or webcam, and enough space to demonstrate a few different movements.
