If you’re considering having surgery, or maybe you’ve had surgery on your ACL injury, you may be wondering what you need to do post-surgery to help you get back to your very best.

Your recovery actually begins before you even leave the hospital.  Most likely, you will be visited by a physio in the hospital, who will give you some basic exercises to begin to get your knee moving again, as well as providing you with some crutches to help you walk.  Most likely you will be up and walking on the same day as you had surgery.

In the clinic, we like to see our clients within a few days post ACL surgery. This helps us get a sense of how you are feeling after surgery, and provide recommendations on how best to manage pain and swelling, and make you feel more comfortable.

“Along the way, we will be constantly measuring your progress.”

We also like to see how you are walking either with or without crutches, and start to work on improving this, as well as review all the exercises you have been doing since you left hospital.

Over time, as you regain full movement in your knee, you’re walking normally again, and your muscle strength is starting to return, the focus of will start to shift towards activities that involve running, jumping and hopping, depending on your particular goals, to get you ready to return to sport or whatever activity it is that you like to do.

Along the way, we will be constantly measuring your progress - such as your muscular power, strength, stability and control to make sure you hit all the benchmarks required before returning to sport.
