How To Strengthen Hip Flexors

Tight and weak hip flexors are something that we see really regularly in the clinic. Often this is because we spend a lot of our day sitting, and this puts our hip flexors in a shortened position. If you have tight or weak hip flexors, then try this hip flexor strengthening exercise, called the hip flexor march.

Place a small resistance band around both feet. Bring both legs up into the air in a 90-90 position, and slowly extend one leg out straight. Then return to the start, and alternate sides.

You’ll feel your hip flexors working on the stationary leg. Make sure to focus on maintaining a nice neutral spine as well. This challenging exercise for the hip flexors can help to resolve the “tightness” you may feel in your hip flexors, which a lot of the time is actually due to hip flexor weakness.
